Dog Training Blueprint to Success: An Ebook by Andrew Chastney |

|
Dog Training Blueprint to Success, by Andrew Chastney, was off the market for a while, because Andrew was giving it a major revision. I expect to be reviewing the new version soon, but for now here is the old review.
The ebook has a subtitle that offers a lot: How to Get Your Dog to Do Exactly What You Tell It... The Very Second You Tell It... Even If It's Nowhere Near You When You Give the Command
I read Dog Training Blueprint to Success carefully to see if it delivered on its promise. The first thing I noticed was that the ebook is based on proven positive dog training principles. Things like.. Consistency

Rosana's Ramblings:I broke into a big smile when I read, "Remember your objective is to have lots of quiet, warm, tender moments with your puppy." YES! In today's rush-rush world, I am sad to say I know people who get a new puppy when they have almost no time for one. Do pick your time for getting a puppy... and make that little dear your top priority, especially during its first weeks with you! It is such a learning sponge at that time. You are setting the stage for many years of life together. |
Chastney's chapter on toilet training puppies-- or as people often call it, potty training dogs-- is worth the price of admission alone. There's also a good chapter on socialization, or getting your puppy used to other dogs, all kinds of people, and the big wide world.
This covers coming when called, walking on the leash, traveling in the car, sitting, down, and stand. You can begin this training just as soon as the puppy recognizes its own name, usually within a week of coming home.
In puppy training with Andrew Chastney's methods, you use sensitivity to what your new little friend is feeling. For example, in introducing the leash, Chastney says, "You want the puppy to like being on the leash and to associate it with happy, interesting things." This may seem obvious, but it's all too easy for us humans to get overly focused on results instead of the process. He has quite a lot to say about how to get a dog to walk easily on leash.
Actually, all the topics are well covered. Because each dog is different, throughout the text he offers a variety of ways to do things.
This covers more advanced leash work and walking to heel off the leash.
This covers fine tuning of the come when called, whistle and hand signals, and overcoming temptations such as the presence of other dogs. Chastney will use a choke chain in a few circumstances, though never on a young puppy, and always with extreme care. The book wraps up with suggestions for training basic manners about the house.
Dog Training Blueprint to Success lives up to the promise of its subtitle. I'm sure that any puppy trained with the help of this ebook will have gotten a terrific start in its life with humans!
Andrew Chastney does not use clicker training, though if you wanted to use it, his methods are largely compatible with it.
Highly recommended. Download it, print it out, read the whole thing through, and have fun with your dog!
And I'll have the link up as soon as I get it from Andrew!
