Puppy Training and Dog Training Online Videos,
with Dove Cresswell: A Review

People often learn best from videos or DVDs, since our brains can take in the information both from seeing and from hearing -- and that is why I think this series of online videos by dog trainer Dove Cresswell are popular. They are nicely made and cover a variety of important topics as well as some delightful tricks.

Cresswell knows her stuff. Although only 25 when the videos were made not long ago, she is an experienced professional Hollywood dog trainer. She says she has trained "everything from cougars to cockroaches, and of course, lots of dogs. I can teach basic and advanced obedience, tricks, movie tricks, and I can train any dog of any breed up to the Master’s level in agility."

In her line of work, dog training methods need to be fast, they need to be effective, and they need to produce consistent results. Sounds good to me, too, and the fact that Dove Cresswell emphasizes positive methods didn't surprise me at all -- positive methods get results!

But enough of my favorite soapbox! Want to go right to her website and find out about these convenient online dog training videos which you can watch anytime, from any computer? Click on the image to your right.

The programs are composed of still photos, words on the screen, and Dove's voice. This means that they will work on virtually any internet connection, anywhere in the world, where "videos" in the sense of movies can be more difficult to download.

I should add regarding positive methods that she does use a choke chain.This isn't exactly a positive tool in my eyes but then, there is a spectrum of thought in dog training.

Here are the topics that each program is about. The three with links go to my reviews of the individual videos. I didn't review the rest because I had gotten the overall feeling of the set: clear, basic instructions.

* Puppy House Training / Potty Training
* Dog Obedience Training
* Crate Training
* Walking Politely on a Leash: The Informal Heel
* The Recall (Coming when Called)
* Good Puppy & Dog Manners
* Special Dog Tricks

You can watch a sample video on your computer; it's the special tricks one. You get all of them as a set, plus several audio bonuses, when you sign up.

Who are these online dog training videos for?

I think that these videos are really good for people who learn best from pictures and sound. For older children, who can read, they provide a very clear and direct understanding of the basics. I'd highly recommend them especially for families.

The set of seven dog training videos sell for a very fair price, considering all that you get. Besides the videos, she offers an email consultation on your biggest dog training problem at no charge, plus a bunch of other bonuses. Even if you're not inclined to order the videos, you can learn things just from reading her webpage and watching the sample video.
