Bodywork for Dogs DVD: My Review |
|
![]() I loved this DVD! Bodywork for Dogs is an attractively produced program which shows you lots of ways to bliss out your dog with bodywork. Both my dogs became soft, lazy lumps within minutes. (They are anyway? Well, this surpassed anything I'd seen from them!) Giving your dogs massages works into training in a couple of ways: a quick few-second massage is a great reward when your dog comes or does something else you wanted... and a routine of giving massages can aid in the dog's overall sense of well-being and relaxation, which again will tie in with training. Just like humans, dogs develop tightness in their shoulders, hindquarters, and other areas of the body. If your dog exhibits any kind of stress, or if you want to enhance his health and overall sense of well-being, Bodywork for Dogs can help you to help him. The DVD features the work of two women who are clearly dedicated to caring for animals. Lynn Vaughan and Deborah Jones show us how to give gentle strokes (and in what direction and why), work on acupressure points, use intuition, and more. Both are Licensed Massage Therapists, and the extent of their knowledge is obvious. For example, I enjoyed some of the diagrams showing the bone structures of the dog -- they explain how this pertains to the massaging you do. I've been aware of the connection between dog behavior and how dogs feel in their bodies since we made a video about the Tellington TTouch for dogs. This connection is also evident in Bodywork for Dogs. They mention a couple of acupuncture points, in particular, that I'm sure I will find useful. There was one moment when a dog growled at one of the women, and I would have liked a quick comment right there about being cautious. That's my only quibble.
