Your
new dog's old tricks will include many obedience commands
if you use this book...
But even more important, you will have what you need to know to
help your puppy develop great temperament:
-
learning to inhibit its bite
-
preferring to play rather than fight with other dogs
-
becoming confident and friendly with humans and other dogs...
and good behaviors, such as
Sound good? How to Teach a New Dog Old Tricks delivers it
all! Written by Dr. Ian Dunbar, the book is in many top 10 lists
of dog training books, including one by the Association of Pet Dog
Trainers.
Jean Donaldson, the author of Culture Clash, a groundbreaking
book on how we relate with dogs, calls How to Teach a New Dog
Old Tricks: "The best book by dog training's leading
genius!"
Rosana's Ramblings:
I used How to Teach a New Dog Old Tricks, along with
the Sirius
Puppy Training program, to train Sunbeam, our independent-minded
Basenji a few years ago. It isn't Ian Dunbar's fault that my new
dog didn't learn all the old tricks she could have... but without
this book, we would have had a much harder time!
His cautionary tales of what happens to poorly trained dogs helped
keep my motivation high, and his training instructions were clear
and to the point. Sunbeam thought it was all fun.
My husband Kelly and I had a harder time teaching her bite inhibition
than we had had with our two previous puppies. We chalked it up
to her being a Basenji, which may or may not have been the reason.
It could have just been her personality.
At the time I was on a Basenji internet list, and its motto was "Where
It Takes a Hundred People to Outsmart One Basenji." With How
to Teach an Old Dog New Tricks, you have a much better chance of
one person (or a few) outsmarting one dog! |
